A view of the left side. The large aluminum bracket holds a 3,000 gallon porta-tank. This tank is used in rural areas where there are no hydrants. It is removed from the truck and the contents of the tank are emptied into it. Engines at the scene can then pump the water directly out of the tank and up to the firefighters. The tank trucks return to a water source, such as the city's hydrant system, to fill and return to the scene of the fire. This circuit of dumping and filling continues until the fire is controlled and on-scene resources are capable of extinguishing the fire.
